An Introduction to the Japanese Art of Floral Arranging 🤍

Guided by Daniel, a trained Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, you’ll be introduced to the quiet and contemplative world of Ikebana, exploring line, balance, asymmetry and negative space. Daniel studied Ikebana at the Sogetsu Ikebana School in Tokyo, where he lived for 10 years.

During this time, he gained his teaching qualification and developed a deep connection to the art and philosophy of Ikebana. He is now a member of the Sydney/NSW Sogetsu Association. Alongside Ikebana, Daniel has a passion for pottery, which he also studied in Japan. He teaches pottery handbuilding and creates many of the ceramic vessels he uses in his own Ikebana practice — bringing together two Japanese art forms through his work.

During the workshop, Daniel will guide you through the three principal lines of Ikebana — SHIN, SOE + HIKAE — before inviting you to select from a collection of seasonal blooms and create your own arrangement.

• All materials —  including a selection of locally grown blooms, two ceramic Ikebana vessels, kenzan metal floral frog and floral secateurs.
• Step by step guidance from Daniel throughout the workshop
• Ceremonial matcha and a selection of herbal teas. 
• 2 x finished Ikebana floral arrangements to take home 🌿
